Game Systems Updateyo - Snailyo



Introduction:

I don't usually improve much on my Hyper Game Jam games, maybe a few bug fixes here and there, or an extra idea that I didn't have time to implement during the jam phrase (probably due to overscoping), making this game quite special. Over the past few days, I have been improving many of the systems of Snailyo, added many new things, and even made a proper ending sequence!

I'm quite proud of myself for working this hard on a simple game, so maybe I'm improving, as I'm also looking to improve on a couple of other game that I previously made, as I have lots of ideas for them. Feel free to leave suggestions in the comments on what I should add.


New Additions:

- A shop has been added where you can buy upgrades for your yoyos, and buy certain other game aspects.

- A few new yoyos have been added to expand the experience and make it more fun, for instance the doublyo will double your current score.

- An animated game ending has been added once you have finished the game (which has lore following from the description of the game).

- There are some cheat codes which you can fill in to do certain things. Only available for a few people though.


Updates:

- A new and improved tilemap with icons for upgrades, decals and the new yoyos.

- Instead of making the game last long, points are given to the player every round for their score (if it is > 0).

- An instruction tip has been added to the start of each round explaining how to play (though scrolling with the mouse wheel and using WS or Up and Down arrows also work).

- The Ui has had a massive overhaul, with a new theme for the buttons and the sliders, and a card-like icon behind the yoyos.

- The movement of the snail now uses tweening instead of instant movement, giving a much more fluid feel.

- A shorter game length of 7 rounds, instead of 20 allows for a much more engaging play and encourages "thinking on your feet" for the most optimal plays.


Bug fixes:

- The doublyo spawning with the previous score's round doubled has been fixed.

- The initial ending froze before going back to the main screen. Now you wait 5 seconds, and it sends you back.


Future updates:

- Make the game look presentable in all resolution (sometimes a different resolution with show the environment layer outside the level).

- Show the final tween of the snail before ending the round.

- Balance changes (to make the grind a bit easier or harder).

- New types of yoyos with special abilities.
